A recent report revealed that the Arizona Cardinals have not made any extension offers to Kyler Murray and that other teams are monitoring the situation.
By this point in the offseason, Arizona Cardinals fans probably thought they were done hearing about the possibility of their favorite team trading quarterback Kyler Murray.
However, NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero shared some very intriguing info on Thursday that would appear to indicate that there is still a chance of the Cardinals sending Murray elsewhere this offseason.
According to Pelissero, Arizona has “yet to make a contract offer” to extend Murray this year, and “other teams are monitoring closely.” Pelissero also added that it would “be a surprise” if the Cardinals quarterback played in 2022 on his current contract, which will only pay him around $5.5 million.
Which teams could be interested in trading for Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray?
With the 2022 NFL Draft set to take place at the end of the month, one would assume any trade involving Murray would have to get done prior to the draft.
Of the teams who could potentially trade for the Arizona quarterback, the Detroit Lions, Pittsburgh Steelers, Carolina Panthers, Seattle Seahawks, New Orleans Saints, and Houston Texans make the most sense.
The Saints and Texans both have multiple first-round picks in this year’s draft, so they might be able to offer the Cardinals the most enticing return package in exchange for Murray. A trade to the Seahawks seems highly unlikely since it would keep Murray in the NFC West.
The Lions and Panthers have a top-six draft selection to offer and the Steelers seem like a bit of a long shot since they’ll need to offer a whole lot more than the No. 20 pick in the first round of this year’s draft that they currently own.
If Murray is still on Arizona’s roster after the NFL Draft, then it’s safe to assume that he will remain with the team for at least the 2022 season. But until then, expect the trade rumors surrounding Murray to pick up steam, especially if there continues to be no contract negotiations between the quarterback and the Cardinals.
