Larry Fitzgerald deserved all the money for his contributions to the team
Due to the previously mentioned Houston-Arizona trade that sent David Johnson away, one of football’s greatest receivers became a Cardinal. DeAndre Hopkins.
When this happened in the 2020 offseason, Hopkins immediately began negotiating a new deal with Arizona (without an agent, by the way) that saw him become the league’s highest-paid receiver.
However, the largest contract ever signed by an Arizona Cardinals wide receiver was fittingly the one, the only, Larry Fitzgerald.
In 2011 Fitzgerald inked a seven-year, $113 million contract that was the largest ever signed by a non-quarterback up to that point in time.
Not much needs to be said here about Larry and his time with the Cardinals. He holds nearly every significant receiving record in franchise history and is arguably the second-best at the position ever, only behind the indomitable Jerry Rice.
His franchise records include:
- 17,492 Receiving Yards (Career)
- 121 Touchdowns (Career)
- 1,432 Receiving Yards (Single Season)
- 2,335 Targets (Career)
- 263 Games Played
Was the deal worth it?
I don’t really feel the need to write anything here. Larry Fitzgerald was, is, and will always be an Arizona Cardinals legend. Of course, it was.
