The Arizona Cardinals are preparing for the worst with the news of Antoine Wesley.
During Thursday’s practice, wide receiver Antoine Wesley went down very awkwardly. One that saw his left leg bounce inward while being covered by the Arizona Cardinals’ seventh-round pick, Christian Matthew.
The video is below, and it happens at the four-second mark of the Tweet. Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury says it’ll take about a week to hear an update on Wesley’s condition. Wesley had a small, late-season revelation where he made great plays, including two touchdowns in the team’s last regular season win against the Dallas Cowboys.
In response to this news, the Arizona Cardinals have signed former Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Marcell Ateman while cutting Eric Smith.
Arizona Cardinals are ready if Antoine Wesley misses a significant amount of time.
It’s funny how fast this move happened for the team after spending the entire offseason doing nothing at all. Ateman comes to the Cardinals after catching 20 passes for 270 yards and one touchdown that came in his rookie season of 2019.
Ateman wore #88 with the Raiders, but he won’t be able to wear that in Arizona. That number belongs to the late J.V. Cain, who tragically died in a nighttime training camp practice back when the team was in St.Louis in the late 1970s.
Ateman has been known for his plays in the preseason, but he didn’t see much playing time at all last season. That could change depending on how long Wesley may be out.
Until then, welcome to the team, Mr. Ateman; we wish you the best of luck.
