The Arizona Cardinals are busy making camp cuts of their own.
That doesn’t mean that they can’t keep an eye on other training camp cuts from teams around the NFL. Sometimes that “X factor” player can be cut just before the season starts and blossom into a great player for their newfound team.
The Arizona Cardinals cut these five players ahead of Tuesday’s deadline to get to a total of 85 players:
- Kingsley Keke
- Haggai Ndubuisi
- Greg Long
- Ronnie Rivers
- Breon Borders
A workout for any of the following players wouldn’t hurt at all, and these guys could become valuable practice squad stashes for the Cardinals. Let’s get into our first candidate:
Arizona Cardinals could eye former Super Bowl Champion RB
Corey Clement would be an intriguing add for his versatility in the offense. The former Philadelphia Eagle, Dallas Cowboy and New York Giant was most recently cut by (ironically) the Baltimore Ravens this week.
Clement is known for his incredibly clutch touchdown catch in the back of the endzone against the New England Patriots (thank goodness the Eagles won).
Clement was used sparingly in 2017 and 2018 by the Eagles, but showed his worth in the playoffs, having 10 receptions for 139 yards and that lone touchdown in the 2017 playoffs. Clement has the speed and agility similar to that of Darren Sproles, and it would be a good move to replace former running back Ronnie Rivers with.
Clement was technically waived, so the Cardinals would have to use their claim to nab him. But I’m not sure that’s the best move at this moment, so the team should take a chance and wait for him to clear before bringing him to Glendale.
