While Bradley Chubb would be the ideal fit if the Arizona Cardinals trade for an edge rusher, Josh Allen would be an excellent consolation.

No, not Josh Allen the quarterback – He is in Buffalo and he should stay in Buffalo for the long haul! But NFL.com has stated defensive end Josh Allen may be on the move come the trade deadline, and Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim should be interested if Bradley Chubb is not on the market.

Ideally, Chubb would come to the desert, but Allen has posted respectable numbers throughout his career. During his rookie campaign in 2019, Allen tallied 10.5 sacks, and following a subpar and injury-filled 2020 campaign, he returned to form in 2021 with 7.5 sacks, an interception, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

Ironically, the fumble recovery and interception came against the Bills star quarterback of the same name. This season, Allen has just 3.0 sacks, but that’s currently 0.5 sacks more than J.J. Watt, who leads the Cardinals with 2.5.

Allen does, however, have five tackles behind the line and 11 quarterback hits. He has also forced two fumbles, showing he is still growing into one of the game’s better pass rushers.

Overall, the Cardinals would need to win their upcoming outing against the Minnesota Vikings if they plan on buying at the trade deadline, or at least seemingly so. And since they practically neglected the pass rush in free agency, instead opting to take a chance on two mid-round draft picks, targeting Allen is highly likely.

But first, let’s see if the Cardinals can even their record at 4-4 today before we dive too deeply into talking about potential trades. If they win, you can expect Keim to pick up the phone and inquire about potential edge rushers in an attempt to make a push toward the 2022-23 NFL Playoffs.
