A recent survey shows that more fans of the Arizona Cardinals believe the team is moving in the right direction. Why is this the case?

SB Nation’s Revenge of the Birds recently released the results of a fan survey, where 3% of Arizona Cardinals fans have the team projected to trend up, a 2% increase from Weeks 15 and 16. So what gives? The Cardinals haven’t been this bad in nearly five seasons record-wise.

One big reason definitely points toward the possibility that Sean Payton could come in and take over. Even if the Redbirds give up some draft capital, Payton’s track record speaks for itself. But besides Payton, talks that a coaching change and front office shakeup in general may point to why the fan base has a little more hope this week.

Potential coaching change may have Arizona Cardinals fans excited

Of course, it will take a lot to acquire Sean Payton. But the Cardinals could also look to other coaching candidates. Earlier in the week, I endorsed Eric Bieniemy, who, despite being a rookie coach, could turn around Kyler Murray’s up and down career and get this offense on the right track.

Other candidates include Frank Reich, Byron Leftwich, Jason Garrett (though he may be tough to sway out of his current gig), and, dare I say it? Steve Wilks? The latter is probably a no-go, but hey, the man coached better than Kingsbury with some cast-offs in Carolina.

Anyway, all of the names listed above would bring excitement to the desert. No, it doesn’t have to be Sean Payton. But something tells me that if the Cardinals lose out, hope for this franchise will ironically grow since the likelihood of Kliff sticking around would hover between slim and none.

Overall, it is good to see the fans slowly regaining their faith amidst what has been a poor season on all accounts. We will know Kliff’s fate as the Arizona Cardinals head coach in just over one week from today.
