Arizona Cardinals must land either Adam Peters or Ran Carthon

The Arizona Cardinals are looking for a new general manager. Adam Peters and Ran Carthon are the two biggest names on the list.

Steve Keim did a fine job in decimating the Arizona Cardinals, making several ill-fated trades during his final seasons in the desert. These trades cost the Redbirds draft picks. And although most fans were perfectly okay with giving up late round picks and ‘taking fliers’ for specific players like Trayvon Mullen, they don’t often understand that teams build depth in the later rounds.

One reason the Cardinals finished as poorly as they did stemmed from Keim giving up so many picks that the team couldn’t build depth. Hence, the 4-13 record when injuries struck and subsequent regime change. Anyway, the Cardinals need to find an executive capable of building and sustaining a winner via the draft.

Two names that jump out more than any other are Adam Peters and Ran Carthon. And in short, I would be happy with either.

Arizona Cardinals should seriously consider Peters or Carthon

Most of the fanbase wants Adrian Wilson, but this is an awful idea. Wilson was part of the old regime, so if you’re looking for true regime change, hiring a Steve Keim disciple makes absolutely no sense. I know fans have an emotional attachment to Wilson, but this is a business and it’s high time to understand that unless you want to see a repeat of the previous decade.

Peters and Carthon are both with the San Francisco 49ers, and hiring them away from one of the league’s more successful franchises would immediately put the Redbirds ahead of the eight-ball. Further, hiring one of the two could also put the Cardinals in position to hire the popular DeMeco Ryans as head coach. And this, well, would certainly raise the odds of a winner coming to town in the desert.

While I’m ultra-high on Frank Reich, Ryans would be great if the Cardinals were looking for someone to take that talented young defensive core to the next level. The San Francisco flair will be hot in the desert if either Peters or Carthon come, and the high possibility they take Ryans with them could be too hot for owner Michael Bidwill to pass up.

Sure, I endorse a massive vetting process here. But if either Peters or Carthon are interested, they should get first dibs for the job.
