The Arizona Cardinals found a new general manager in Monti Ossenfort, and they just got a ringer, given his overall experience.
The Arizona Cardinals struck gold with the hiring of Monti Ossenfort. While only this morning, I lobbied for Joe Hortiz, Ossenfort serves as an epic consolation prize. One reason I like this move is that we now know owner Michael Bidwill wasn’t in the mood to hire anyone left over from the Steve Keim regime, as he also interviewed Quentin Harris and Adrian Wilson.
Hiring Ossenfort allows the Cardinals to legitimately steer this franchise into a new era. It also shows us that there will be a proper chain of command in the desert, with the new head coach likely to report to Ossenfort, as opposed to reporting directly to Bidwill, as is the case in some NFL landscapes.

Ossenfort also knows what it takes to build a successful franchise. He previously served as the director of player personnel with the Tennessee Titans between 2020 and 2022. And before that, Ossenfort was a member of the New England Patriots scouting department, where he served in numerous roles between 2006 and 2019, winning three Super Bowls with the club in that span.
Ossenfort was also a personal assistant for the Patriots for one season in 2003, where he won his first Super Bowl in New England, giving him a total of four. He also knows a little about what it takes to build a football team, given his experience with the Houston Texans in 2002, 2004, and 2005.
Overall, he was a solid hire and something off the beaten path for Bidwill, who has a history of promoting front office personnel in house. This hiring gives us some proof that Bidwill is more serious than ever before about getting his Cardinals out of the NFL’s doldrums once and for all.
Now that we know who will be running the organization, the burning question remains: Who will be this team’s next head coach?
