Arizona Cardinals: Ejiro Evero could be a remarkable fit in the desert
By Sion Fawkes
The Arizona Cardinals are intensifying their head coaching search following their hiring of Monti Ossenfort as the new general manager.
Ejiro Evero has become the latest request from the Arizona Cardinals. And he could be a great find if hired in the desert, given the sound job he did with the inept Denver Broncos over the past season.
While Denver’s offense struggled under a washed up Russell Wilson, Evero’s defense made the team watchable. So what can he do with a Cardinals group that contains several young, talented puzzle pieces?
In Denver this past season, Evero’s defense ranked eighth in the league, allowing an average of just 320 yards per contest. His unit also allowed just 359 points, or 21.1 points per game. The mark tied the Broncos with the Tennessee Titans at 14th in the league.
And that number may have been even better if Evero’s defense wasn’t forced to bail out an offense that scored just 287 points, 16.8 per contest, which ranked 32nd in the NFL.
Ejiro Evero could thrive with the Arizona Cardinals
Evero would have a plethora of young talent to work with, and odds are, the Arizona Cardinals will add a blue-chip edge rusher to that group. While the group’s numbers tanked as the season went on, they had several remarkable outings, most notably between Weeks 2 and 6. Therefore, when healthy and fresh, this defense showed itself capable of stopping a lot of offenses.
Whatever the case, look for Evero to be a hot candidate for the Cardinals if this interview occurs. In other news, Arizona also completed their first interview for their open head coaching position. Frank Reich was the subject of that interview, and I have even gone on record to say that Reich is a candidate the Cardinals should seriously consider for the gig.
