The Arizona Cardinals look like they have another interview lined up with Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn.

You don’t interview a head coaching candidate twice unless you are seriously considering them, but that’s exactly what it appears the Arizona Cardinals are doing. But if they weren’t looking to interview other candidates like Brian Callahan, Lou Anarumo, and Mike Kafka, I’d be (somewhat) worried.

Since Glenn is getting a second interview but the Redbirds don’t seem to be anywhere near finished with the interviewing process, it appears the Lions DC is nothing more than a potential last resort candidate. If the Cardinals were overly serious about hiring him, they wouldn’t be talking to more high-profile names.

What if the Arizona Cardinals hired Aaron Glenn?

At Raising Zona, we’ve stated before that Glenn isn’t our favorite candidate, as he’s led the Lions defense to overall finishes of 32nd in 2022 and 29th in 2021. But it’s not all doom and gloom. Glenn was part of the Lions turnaround from a 1-6 start this season, and that within itself deserves serious recognition.

As Detroit finished the year 8-2, Glenn’s defense allowed 20.2 points per over the final 10 games, and he helped develop the young unit all season. His leadership skills are bar-none, which would be great for a Cardinals defense with a lot of young faces.

So you don’t need to panic now that we know the Cardinals look to be at least somewhat strongly considering Glenn. You can also rest easily in knowing that the defensive-minded coach made dramatic improvements to the unit despite the bleak overall numbers.

Must Read. Cardinals need to find a quarterback for 2023. light

Glenn still isn’t my first choice. But if the Cardinals hire him, I certainly wouldn’t flip out. Anybody, and I mean anybody, is better than Kliff Kingsbury at this point. Including Glenn.
