The Arizona Cardinals will finally have an offensive coordinator in 2023 after going without one during the Kliff Kingsbury era.

As the Arizona Cardinals continue to search for their next head coach, with Jonathan Gannon being the latest interviewee, there is a chance a well-respected coach could slide in as the team’s offensive coordinator. Clearly, Bieniemy could just return to the Kansas City Chiefs to help Patrick Mahomes and Company continue their quest to become the NFL’s next great dynasty.

Or he could come to the desert, as it appears the Cardinals may be on the shortlist with the Washington Commanders and the Baltimore Ravens. Of course, we need to wait and see who the Redbirds hire as the next man in charge before we know whether Bieniemy is a good fit to run the offense, but if Mike Kafka gets the gig, it’s not farfetched to think the Chiefs OC lands in Glendale.

Eric Bieniemy may end up with the Arizona Cardinals as offensive coordinator

Kafka and Bieniemy worked together between 2018 and 2021 on the Chiefs coaching staff, with Kafka serving as the team’s quarterbacks coach in 2018 and 2019 before he later added the title passing game coordinator to his job title in 2020 and 2021.

Adding Bieniemy could also be great for Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray. A bonus, really, judging on how well the former worked with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, turning the 27-year-old into a two-time Super Bowl champion.

Even if the Cardinals rolled with Lou Anarumo or Jonathan Gannon, Bieniemy should warrant top-end consideration. Regarded as one of the best assistant coaches in football, Bieniemy wouldn’t just kickstart Murray, but what was a stagnant, to put things into generous terms, Cardinals offense in 2022.

If the Redbirds new coach sought Bieniemy, they would likely enter a sweepstakes-like competition given the offensive coordinator’s impressive resume. Time will ultimately tell whether he winds up in the desert, opts to stay in Kansas City, or decides to go elsewhere.
