The Arizona Cardinals will hit several positions of need in free agency. And while they have a solid running back in James Conner, they could use an RB2.

Here at Raising Zona, we’ve been talking a lot about the Arizona Cardinals possibly getting a lot of soon-to-be former Philadelphia Eagles. Boston Scott could be one player garnering a lot of attention, as the Redbirds will be looking for a solid RB2 after they got rid of Eno Benjamin during the 2022 regular season.

As it stands, the Cardinals currently have James Conner, Ty’Son Williams, and Keaontay Ingram on the roster. But next to Conner, neither Williams nor Ingram appear to be viable second-tier running backs. Scott, however, could change that, given his production in Philadelphia.

Boston Scott would be a fine member of the Arizona Cardinals backfield

Since 2019, Scott has been a pivotal part of the Eagles offense, generating between 54 and 87 carries per season in that timespan, for between 217 and 374 rushing yards. While it doesn’t seem like a lot, Scott made the most of his 282 career carries, taking 16 of them into the endzone.

In 2021, he had his best performance as an NFL running back, carrying the ball 87 times for 373 yards (4.3 yards per carry), and 7 touchdowns. He can also be serviceable as a receiver, with 67 career catches, 514 yards, and a touchdown.

While Scott only had five catches on six targets this past season, he showed his efficacy in 2020, hauling in 25 catches for 212 yards and a touchdown. Besides his productivity, however, Scott is also the perfect complement to a running back like Conner.

Whereas Conner is 6’0, 233lb, Scott is just 5’6, and a little over 200. He’s more of a speedy, agile type of back. A stark contrast from Conner’s smashmouth style. This tandem would by no means give the Cardinals the best one-two punch in the NFL, but they would be adequate enough to hold the position group down for a season.
