Though the Arizona Cardinals' preseason finished with a 1-3 losing record, fans head into the regular season with reason for optimism under the new Mike LaFleur era.

But first, the Cardinals must decide which 53 players get the privilege of heading into the season. Arizona was forced to narrow down its roster on Sunday, ahead of a 3:00 PM local time deadline.

Notable Cardinals roster moves

James Conner heads to IR

Arizona is placing veteran running back James Conner on IR, according to John Gambadoro. He's now set to miss the Cardinals' first four games, though it shouldn't be a major blow given the depth at the position.

Cardinals acquire Hunter Long

The Cardinals traded Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Hunter Long, downgrading from a 2028 sixth-round pick to a 2028 seventh-round pick as part of the deal. Long is a former third-round pick in 2021 and should give Arizona more blocking at the position as a depth piece behind Trey McBride.

Corey Kiner gets traded to Patriots

Arizona shipped running back Corey Kiner to the New England Patriots in exchange for a 2028 seventh-round pick. With their crowded running back room, Kiner was a cut candidate for the Cardinals, so it was good they were able to turn that into a future asset.

Josh Sweat comes off the PUP list

The Cardinals activated OLB Josh Sweat off the PUP list, meaning he won't be forced to miss their first four games of the season. Sweat has survived countless trade rumors in Arizona, and appears set to begin the 2026 season with the Cardinals.

Other Cardinals injuries

Wide receiver Xavier Weaver was placed on IR after suffering a season-ending hamstring injury.

Running back Trey Benson was waived by Arizona, but rejoins them on IR. He's unfortunately dealt with lingering injuries following knee surgery, and there wasn't enough room after how much the Cardinals spent at the position this offseason.
