The Arizona Cardinals recently announced a handful of moves as they continue narrowing their roster to 53 leading up to Sunday's deadline. Here are the transactions announced Monday:

  • Activated Josh Sweat from PUP
  • Signed S Hudson Clark and S Devyn Bobby
  • Cut TE Baylor Cupp and WR Bryson Green
  • Xavier Weaver to IR
  • Waived/Injured Trey Benson

Cardinals' roster moves ahead of preseason game vs. Packers

Cardinals activate Josh Sweat from PUP

Josh Sweat's PUP activation is a significant boost for Arizona's defense in need of more pass rushing. He's survived countless trade rumors on a rebuilding Cardinals team, and this latest update suggests Sweat should even be ready for the Week 1 season opener coming September 13 on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Trey Benson rejoins Cardinals on IR

Tuesday, Adam Schefter reported Trey Benson went through waivers unclaimed, meaning he will now join the Cardinals' IR.

It could've been a worthwhile claim to take a flier on a former third-round pick who is still just 24. However, he's unfortunately dealt with lingering issues from a knee surgery that seems to have deterred teams. Because of the injury situation, Benson could now become a free agent should he finalize an injury settlement.

Cardinals extend center Hjalte Froholdt

The Cardinals also reached a two-year, $20 million extension with center Hjalte Froholdt, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. While general offensive line issues persist in the desert, this was an underrated move to secure a reliable and consistent piece of their line through the 2028 season.

What's next for the Arizona Cardinals?

Arizona is in Green Bay with a joint practice between the LaFleur brothers' teams scheduled for Wednesday.

Then, the Cardinals' final preseason matchup comes Friday, August 28 against the Packers.

Arizona has made two more roster moves leading up to that contest, bringing in punter Jack Browning and safety Josh Minkins. Injuries suffered by Blake Gillikin and Dadrion Taylor-Demerson aren't a long-term concern, but they did force Arizona's hand to make those additional moves leading up to Mike's showdown against his brother.

Eyes will be on the defensive side of the ball for this new-look roster, as LaFleur and the Cardinals look to bounce back from a rough 34-13 blowout loss against the Dallas Cowboys.
