Whenever a big name hits the trade market, it's hard not to wonder what they might look like in your team's colors. In the 2025 NFL offseason, plenty of stars have made it known that they are open to being traded elsewhere. Trey Hendrickson, Tyreek Hill, and now Jalen Ramsey have all been the subject of trade talks over the last few months.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport recently reported that Ramsey and the Dolphins "are mutually set to explore trade options."
The news doesn't come as a shock, as Ramsey has already played for three different teams throughout his career. His time in Miami has had its ups and downs, but it may be coming to an end soon.
In the wake of the report, rumors about potential landing spots have abounded. The Cardinals have been listed among the possible suitors, but the move could set them back significantly.
Cardinals should run for the hills amid Jalen Ramsey trade rumors
This isn't new. The Cardinals have a history of seeking out veteran stars who may be past their primes. A few notable names come to mind, including J.J. Watt and Terrell Suggs. These players can be contributors, but they often stunt the growth of young players with high potential.
Jalen Ramsey would command one of the starting cornerback spots on the Cardinals defense. He is likely more talented than most of Arizona's current options. Ramsey posted two interceptions and 11 pass deflections in 2024. He's been named to the First-Team All-Pro list three times.
Still, the Cardinals should not consider trading for him.
Arizona is building up a defense predicated on high-energy play and discipline. Young defensive backs like Garrett Williams, Max Melton, and Dadrion Taylor-Demerson appear ready to carry the torch into this new era.
Trading for Jalen Ramsey would be a move in the opposite direction. Ramsey, for all of his production and accolades, has not been known as the most positive of locker room presences. Additionally, he would take playing time from Max Melton and Garrett Williams. The development of these players is crucial to the Cardinals long-term success.
Instead of trading for Ramsey, the Cardinals should look to add a cornerback in the early rounds of the draft. Plenty of high-potential prospects should be available throughout the process.
The Arizona Cardinals were once defined by splashy, ill-advised moves for aging veterans. Now, I hope, they are different.
