The Arizona Cardinals' 33-30 overtime win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday came with a few storylines. That same day, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Cowboys were a team to monitor as a potential landing spot for edge rusher Josh Sweat. It would be an audition of sorts as they'd get an up-close look at how he'd fare against Dak Prescott and their offense.

Sweat finished the game with six tackles and a key sack coming on third down in overtime to get the Cardinals the ball back. That set up the win for Arizona, as it ultimately led to Chad Ryland's game-winning 42-yard field goal.

Sweat is a 29-year-old veteran, so this game isn't necessarily make-or-break for the Cowboys' trade stance. Still, it does serve as a reminder that Sweat may not be having the same season as last year, but is still plenty impactful.

Cowboys could be a Josh Sweat trade away from the playoffs

After surrendering 33 points at home to a Cardinals team led by backup quarterback Gardner Minshew II and backup running back Tyler Allgeier, the Cowboys should probably try to address their defense before the Nov. 10 trade deadline.

Dallas is now 3-5 but could still take a buyer's stance at the deadline considering they're still second in the weak NFC East, currently led by the 4-2-1 New York Giants.

Given how explosive the Cowboys' offense is, how flawed their defense is, and how weak the division is, they could genuinely be a Sweat trade away from reaching the postseason. He's one of the top pass rushers on the trade market.

DeForest Buckner is already off the board after the Indianapolis Colts traded him to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a 2027 fourth-round pick.

The Chicago Bears also made a blockbuster trade with the Tennessee Titans, acquiring Jeffery Simmons and a 2028 fifth-round pick in exchange for a 2027 and 2028 first-round picks and a 2027 fourth-round pick. That could potentially give Arizona a new market in the NFC North should teams like the Green Bay Packers or Detroit Lions feel the need to counter with a trade of their own.

But as ESPN's Jeremy Fowler previously reported, one NFC executive called Dallas a "profile fit" for Sweat. Not to rule out other potential landing spots entirely, but the Cowboys appear to be the favorite should the Cardinals ultimately trade Sweat leading up to the deadline.

Arizona is reportedly seeking a Day 2 pick in return for Sweat, so hopefully Dallas feels more incentivized to meet those demands after Sunday's audition.
