The Arizona Cardinals are trading Marvin Harrison Jr. to the Houston Texans, ESPN's Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter reported Sunday.

The Cardinals will receive a second round pick this year and a sixth-round pick in exchange for Harrison and a seventh-round pick.

The fact that Arizona received a second-round pick despite Harrison's struggles should be considered a win.

Cardinals won the Marvin Harrison Jr. trade

At the same time, it also shows how much Harrison's value has tanked since the Cardinals selected the Ohio State product with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Harrison unfortunately joins an increasingly long list of Cardinals draft picks that have not panned out.

That said, credit the front office for admitting their mistake and cutting their losses. It would be one thing if they sold low on Harrison in a panic move. Even with the bust narrative surrounding Harrison, that ultimately wasn't the case.

This is great value for someone that has seemingly lost the trust of quarterback Jacoby Brissett. Most importantly, it was already apparent through just four weeks that Harrison didn't quite fit this new offense under first year head coach Mike LaFleur.

This offense plays more to the strengths of Michael Wilson rather than Harrison. But that also raises the question of what exactly is Harrison's strengths? His hands and ability to create seperation have been incredibly underwhelming through 33 games played for the Cardinals, especially relative to lofty draft expectations.

The Texans are hoping Harrison will benefit from a change of scenery, now playing with former Ohio State teammate C. J. Stroud. They're taking a chance on the 24 year old who is just a few years removed from being a top five pick and a coveted prospect. And the longer the Cardinals held onto him, the more they risked his trade value declining. At some point, untapped remains just that - untapped. How many years are we going to give Harrison with the Texans before it's decided this is the player he is?

The NFL landscape changes quickly, and it no longer matters how well you performed in college or how high you were drafted. Looking at Harrison through the lens of a nothing more than an inconsistent WR2 for the Cardinals, it's almost a miracle they were able to come away with this amount of draft compensation.
