Arizona Cardinals: Why the Cowboys could overpay for DeAndre Hopkins
By Sion Fawkes
The Arizona Cardinals saga regarding a potential DeAndre Hopkins trade continues, and the team has a lot of would-be trade partners here.
Daniel Morales of The Landry Hat brought up a few key points regarding why the Dallas Cowboys could make a good trading partner for the Arizona Cardinals. For one, the Cowboys are, no pun intended, lacking stars aside from CeeDee Lamb.
You got an aging Ezekiel Elliott, plus pending free agents in Tony Pollard, Noah Brown, and Dalton Schultz. Plus, Michael Gallup looked like a far cry from his old self. So a team in desperation mode like the Redbirds old division rival could be looking to fork up more compensation than one may otherwise think.
Yesterday, I wrote a piece about the Cardinals potentially dealing Hopkins for a cheap price. But if Jerry Jones comes calling, you can negate that article, as Jones will likely pay pristine compensation for a receiver who could help the Cowboys return to the Super Bowl for the first time since 1995.
Don’t be surprised if the Cowboys call the Cardinals for Hopkins
For two seasons, the Cowboys have been on the outside, looking in. They fell to the San Francisco 49ers in the playoffs twice over the last two seasons. And if they re-sign the likes of Pollard, Brown, and Schultz, they are that team, and I say this with emphasis, who might just be one player from pushing them to the NFL’s pinnacle.
So, Cowboys fans, could you imagine the picture-perfect look of DeAndre Hopkins lining up opposite of CeeDee Lamb? His presence will also open things up for Pollard, who is all but a shoo-in to return to Dallas.
Overall, given the way the Cowboys could shape their roster in the near-future, it’s easy to see why Jones could easily give up a first round pick for Hopkins. This is a receiver who may ultimately help Dallas break through to the top.
