Arizona Cardinals could wind up acquiring a receiver for DeAndre Hopkins
By Sion Fawkes
It’s no secret that the Arizona Cardinals are looking to find a trade partner and the best deal possible for wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.
As the NFL Combine continues, news has spread that the Arizona Cardinals are hoping to find another team to pull off a deal for star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. And over the past couple of months, we’ve been told a potential trade would involve draft picks.
But what if a team offered a receiver in return? Lou Scataglia of Predominantly Orange brought up this scenario earlier today, where they proposed a potential swap involving Denver Broncos receiver Courtland Sutton plus a Day Three pick.
This certainly piqued my interest, as Sutton will be just 28 during the 2023 season, and he has produced well in this league. No, Sutton has never played to Hopkins’ caliber, but he’s a former Pro Bowler who, at 6’4, 216lb, would provide a strong complement to the 5’9 Marquise Brown.
Arizona Cardinals could trade Hopkins for another receiver
Overall, trading Hopkins for a solid asset like Sutton seems like a longshot. But at the same time, the Broncos are in more of a win-now mode with head coach Sean Payton manning the helm while the Cards are facing a longer rebuilding plan.
So while this potential trade may not look as though it makes much sense on paper, given the direction the two teams are headed, it wouldn’t surprise me if Arizona swapped Hopkins for a player of Sutton’s caliber.
In Denver, Payton will be tasked with resurrecting quarterback Russell Wilson’s career. And since Hopkins remains in his prime, there is a good chance general manager George Paton at least calls the Cards to make an inquiry.
We at Raising Zona have spoken about plenty of destinations for Hopkins, and Denver hasn’t necessarily been on the radar. But if they call and are willing to send an immediate replacement over, Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort should listen.
