A reasonable expectation going into the Cardinals’ draft was a pick or two to help their wide receiver room.
They did not. With their seven draft picks, the Cardinals took six defensive players and a guard.
Throughout the NFL, there is belief Arizona needs another wide receiver to team with Marvin Harrison Jr., and to give quarterback Kyler Murray a third effective option along with Pro Bowl tight end Trey McBride.
How about Amari Cooper?
He could help Arizona’s offense. Is this move too obvious?
Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton thinks Cooper would be a good fit with the Chiefs or Texans, too. And in the Dallas media, there is growing support for the wide receiver to return to the Cowboys.
“If healthy … [Cooper] can be a solid No. 2 wide receiver,” Moton wrote. “He’s still a sharp route-runner with reliable hands.
“He fits with a team that won’t be heavily reliant on him posting Pro Bowl numbers but needs a savvy pass-catcher to fill a void on the perimeter.”
Cooper, who will turn 31 in June, has played 154 games over 11 seasons. He has been a Pro Bowler five times. He’s been around, playing for the Cowboys, Raiders, Browns, and Bills. He’s been an excellent receiver since he was the fourth overall pick in 2015 by the Oakland Raiders.
How much does Amari Cooper have left?
Cooper’s career statistics are tremendous — 711 receptions for 10,033 yards (14.1 average) with 64 touchdowns. He has had seven 1,000-yard seasons.
But his numbers last season were possibly indicative of a receiver on the decline. He played six games for the Browns (24 catches, 250 yards, two touchdowns) and eight games for the Bills (20 catches, 297 yards, two touchdowns). His 547 yards were a career low.
Is Cooper's 2024 season indicative of a bad season or the beginning of a downward trend? That's what interested teams have to consider.
The Cowboys might be interested in a Cooper reunion. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported there is “building team interest” in bringing Cooper back to Dallas. He played four seasons in Dallas (2018-21) before being traded to the Browns for a fifth-round pick and a sixth-round pick after the 2021 season.
If the Cardinals *think* they need more wide receiver help, they should consider Cooper. If they *believe* they need another wide receiver, they should be on the phone with Cooper this minute, booking a flight to Sky Harbor and bringing out the fine silverware for lunch.
