Get Ready for Leinart-Anderson Battle

facebooktwitterreddit

With the Arizona Cardinals training camp getting going next weekend, the talk will start to heat up on Matt Leinart as the new Cards starting quarterback.  Does Leinart make it through all of camp as the starter?  Will Derek Anderson push him at all in camp?  Will we see some nice surprises from backups John Skelton and Max Hall?  They are all good questions.

First, I think Leinart makes it through camp as the starter unless something drastic happens, you know, like he accidentally hyper extends his arm or has a freak ironing accident.  The question will come up a lot, but ultimately I think coach Ken Whisenhunt gives him a shot in at least a couple of games.  He'll be a on short leash though.  Even with the NFL's softest schedule, the Cards can't afford to get off with two or three losses to the season, especially given that the St. Louis Rams and Oakland Raiders are two of the first three opponents.

All Cards fans eyes will be focused.  This will be an intriguing battle between Leinart and Anderson.  What happens if Anderson performs so well in the preseason that it will be difficult to ignore?  Chances are that won't happen, but you never know.  There is a constant evaluation that will go on.  I say you have to give Leinart every chance to lose the job though.  Five days and counting.
