Thursday Night Games Will Have a Bigger Impact on Team Records: Cardinals Seem to Benefit
It used to be that Thursday night games were limited to a couple of games that were played on Thanksgiving. Then the NFL added an opening game on Thursday night, too. Now the NFL has seen the dollar signs, and has moved to a schedule where there is one game every Thursday night.
This will have a big impact on a team’s won-loss record, depending on who a team plays on a Thursday and who they play the following Sunday. The best case is for a team to play a relatively easy team in their schedule on Thursday night (so in case the team is a little flat after a short week, they can still pull out a victory) and play a more difficult team the following Sunday (gaining an extra three days rest on the opposing team).
