Player profile of P Drew Butler as Arizona Cardinals training camp starts July 31st
As we prepare for Arizona Cardinals training camp reporting date of July 31st, it is time for our annual look at the roster player by player. I look at what they’ve done, where they are now and how I project each player’s status at the end of camp.
We go from A to Z and continue with P Drew Butler. Butler enters his second season with the Cardinals.

2014 season: Butler was with the Cardinals off and on. He punted in 15 games last season in replacement of Dave Zastudil. Zasty was injured early on and had to be placed on the Injured Reserve. Butler was cut one week and brought right back. He even was on the active roster with Zasty one week. Then Zasty couldn’t return and the job was Butler’s for the rest of the season.
Butler had 79 punts but averaged just 42.1 yards-per-punt. His longest of the season was 67 yards. He was less than stellar in the playoff game against the Carolina Panthers though. He averaged a miserable 34.8 yards-per-punt. That won’t cut it.
2015 season projection: Butler has an uphill climb to keep his job. He should feel lucky he’s even in camp but I think with the uncertainty of how Zasty will bounce back from his injury there has to be competition. If Butler can’t get the job done Zasty should return full time. My guess is Zasty wins the job in camp.
@BurnsAndGambo maybe Cardinals P Drew Butler was using under deflated balls seeing as he could only kick it 20 yards.

Az Cardinals P Drew Butler was very honest today when he told me, "I let my teammates down, I let myself down and I let my coaches down."

Butler clearly wasn’t the only issue the Cardinals had on that Saturday in January but he was a definite factor in field position. Let’s hope he’s put all of that behind him and is able to move on and make for a good camp competition with Zasty in August. Butler will get his shot in preseason games.
