The Arizona Cardinals traded back from the 20th spot in the first round to the 27th and ended up selecting Bucannon at 27. The initial reaction to the selection of Bucannon was positive, as he was a strong physical safety during his time at Washington State.

Deone Bucannon played in all 16 games in his rookie season, and finished the season with 65 total tackles, 2 sacks, and 1 forced fumble. Bucannon should see his numbers increase in his sophomore season with more playing time. It was rumored that Bucannon would be switching to linebacker, but that does not seem likely.
