4. J.J. Nelson, Wide receiver

With their second fifth round pick, the Cardinals took speedy receiver J.J. Nelson to complement John Brown. While he was buried on the depth chart behind Larry Fitzgerald, Michael Floyd and John Brown, Nelson was still able to show flashes of potential in his limited playing time.

Nicknamed “Fire,” Nelson suited up for 11 games this season and finished the year by catching 11 passes for 299 yards and 2 touchdowns. Nelson’s best game of the season, and one of the best performances by an NFL receiver in 2015, was in a prime time Sunday Night game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Against a tough Bengals secondary, Nelson caught 4 passes for 142 yards and 1 touchdown. Nelson’s touchdown came on a 64 yard bomb from Carson Palmer.

While it is unclear as to whether the Cardinals will resign Jaron Brown, I am sure Bruce Arians will try to give Nelson more playing time. Especially on 2nd and short situations with the opportunity to take chance down the field. With depth at wide receiver one of the Cardinals’ strong points, it’s only a matter of time before J.J. Nelson becomes a household name among st Arizona fans.
