Could Arizona Cardinals Sign a Free Agent?
4. Donald Butler – Inside Linebacker
Previous Team: San Diego Chargers
6-1, 242 Pounds
When I heard the news that Donald Butler had been cut by the Chargers, I thought “wait, why?”, and then journalists and reporters started calling him a thief. Misunderstood, that’s what I think Donald Butler is. He was high-character guy, the Chargers gave him a big contract after the 2014 season, did it really hurt them to believe in a young man?
Now, before I have a revolt on my hand, let me explain. Donald Butler would be in Arizona to contest with Kevin Minter, not Deone Bucannon. Minter has been on-again and off-again. Sometimes, it’s good he’s on the field, so he can make tackles in the run game. Other times, he get’s ditched by tight ends as if their faster then him.
I think both the Cardinals and Butler need a new fit at inside linebacker, giving themselves alternative motive for the relationship to work. The Cardinals need to light a figurative fire under Kevin Minter, and Donald Butler needs to resurrect his career. With that being said, if he beat Minter, he would be the presumptive starter.
Estimated Contract: 1 year, $2.5M
