Arizona Cardinals Top 3 fantasy starters for Week 1
Which Arizona Cardinals should you start in their week 1 match up against the New England Patriots?
The Cardinals are set to open their 2016 season at home against the Patriots on Sunday Night Football. There are favorable fantasy match ups for Arizona as New England will be without several key players. Let’s take a look at the top 3 Cardinals that you need to have in your lineup for this week.
David Johnson, Running back
David Johnson had a coming out party in December last season which set him up for high fantasy expectations this season. Picking up from where he left off, Johnson rushed for 64 yards and 1 touchdown on 12 carries this preseason.
A top 5 pick in most drafts, Johnson has the ability to move the ball on the ground and through the air.
The Patriots gave up 92 catches to running backs last season. Johnson has shown his value in PPR leagues, and should exploit an above average Patriots defense through the air. Along with being a threat through the air, Johnson is also the starting tailback and is expected to receive a bulk of the team’s carries.
Predicted stats: 75+ rushing yards, 4 catches, 30 receiving yards, 2 rushing touchdowns.
Carson Palmer, Quarterback
Carson Palmer had a rough preseason, but luckily those game don’t count. Last season, Palmer set career highs in all major passing categories. With an upgraded offensive line, the return of every offensive weapon from last season and the emergence of David Johnson, Palmer is set to eclipse his MVP worthy 2015 season.
From the comforts of University of Phoenix Stadium, Palmer should be able to dissect the Patriots and continue to play the best football of his career. Arizona’s offensive line should be able give Palmer enough time to throw since New England’s pass rush isn’t what it once was.
Predicted stats: 250+ passing yards, 3 passing touchdowns.
Arizona Cardinals, Defense/Special teams
The Cardinals caught a couple of breaks heading into the season opener, which bodes well for fantasy players. Jimmy Garoppolo will be making his first career start in Tom Brady’s place. The third year quarterback will also be without Rob Gronkowski who is nursing an injured hamstring.
Without two of their top offensive play makers, the Patriots will have a tough time moving the ball against. The Cardinals defense should be able to get to Garoppolo on many occasions and force a few turnovers.
Predicted stats: 3+ sacks, 2+ turnovers.
