One of Arizona’s most popular players is sometimes one the most overlooked players. Calais Campbell doesn’t always get the accolades that guys like Larry Fitzgerald and Patrick Peterson get, but he’s been a big reason for the success that the Cardinals have had in recent seasons.

At 6’8″ and 282 pounds, Campbell looks more like somebody to be afraid more than anything. However, his size belies his warm personality and giving spirit. He is a beast on the field, but brings a light-heartedness off it. He’s often smiling, and it’s contagious when he does.

Campbell has twice been a Pro Bowler, and he deserved even more. As a 3-4 defensive end, he’s not asked to put up big numbers, but he has been a key member of the defense. In his nine seasons in the desert, he 56 1/2 sacks, 42 passes defensed, 8 forced fumbles, 8 fumble recoveries, 3 interceptions, and a touchdown. He has also been a great run defender, and generally makes the defense work up front.

Fans of other teams around the league may not know how much Cardinals fans love Campbell, but he is beloved. With him set to enter free agency this off-season, he might have played his last game. No matter where he winds up, he’ll always hold a special place in Arizona hearts, and he has certainly earned his valentine.
