Trumaine Johnson, cornerback

It is no secret that the Cardinals struggled to find consistent, competent cornerback play across from Patrick Peterson last season. The Cardinals could look to address the position in the draft, or hope that one of their in-house options is up to the task in 2017.

It’s also possible that Keim opts to wait out the frenzied portion of free agency, and look to sign a veteran on a one-year “prove-it” deal. If Keim does, however, intend to sign a premium free agent at the position, 27 year old Los Angeles Rams free agent cornerback Trumaine Johnson could be the target.

At six-foot-two and 208 pounds, Johnson is a big, physical corner who is solid in coverage. His biggest weakness seems to be that he struggles against the run – which is surprising, considering his size.

The Rams used the franchise tag on Johnson last seasons. However, if what Yahoo Sports’ writer Charles Robinson hears is correct, there is a chance that Johnson will hit the free agent market.

If Johnson ends up on the market, expect him to draw significant interest. Simply put, he will not come cheap. If Keim is going to spend big, however, it is going to be to sign a talented young player at a premium position. Trumaine Johnson fits this description.
