James Conner is a big, powerful running back who is a monster in short yardage

The running back position has been somewhat minimized in recent years at the NFL level. As the passing game becomes more prominent, the running games have become used less, and teams have gone to a committee setup instead of one workhorse.

In 2016, David Johnson was asked to carry the load for the Arizona Cardinals. On a weekly basis, he was asked to touch the ball much more than most other backs in the league. It had the effect of wearing him down as the year went on. The team would like to change this going into next season.

James Conner is an amazing story, having recovered from cancer, but he’s also a great player. He’s a big bodied ball carrier who can absorb, and bounce off of, tackle attempts. They might have already taken Fournette in an earlier round, but adding such an inspiring player with goalline ability isn’t such a bad idea.
