Zane Gonzalez was the best kicker in college football in 2016, and could be a great pro

Special teams was mostly a disaster in 1016 for the Cardinals. It cost them a game or two, and possibly, in a close NFC, a trip to the playoffs. Cardinals management decided to make some changes this off-season.

Last year’s kicker, Chandler Catanzaro, didn’t play terribly. However, he did have a number of untimely misses that hurt. This resulted in him being released, and the team signing veteran kicker Phil Dawson to a two-year contract.

Dawson is into his 40s, though he’s still an effective kicker. However, signing a young kicker, like Zane Gonzalez, is a great idea. He was the best kicker in the nation in 2016, and once Dawson retires, he would make a great replacement. As a late round pick, it makes perfect sense.
