Alterraun Verner, CB

The Cardinals still need a cornerback opposite of Patrick Peterson, and Alterraun Verner still needs a home. The former Buccaneers playmaker lacks size at 5’10” and 187 pounds, but he is only 28 years old. Last season he had only one interception, but he also tallied 7 passes defensed in only three games started.

I’m not saying that Verner should walk into a starting role in Arizona, but I am saying he should have a chance. He should be a cheap option and he provides experience for a CB corps that lacks it (outside of Peterson, and to an extent, Bethel). Verner could be a valuable pickup if he can fill in for Cooper effectively.

Optimistically we can hope that Tampa Bay’s system just did not fit to Verner’s strengths and he can return to his 2013 form, his last season with the Titans in which he recorded 22 passes defensed and 5 INTs.
