Arizona Cardinals: First round pick could be surprise
By Scott Allen
The Arizona Cardinals will have many options at number 13 tonight in Philadelphia
The Arizona Cardinals are now less than three hours until they make their first round pick of the 2017 NFL Draft. Will they go defense, will they go offense?
Most of the recent talk has been maybe linebacker Reuben Foster or linebacker Hasson Reddick? Will they get a quarterback they love? We don’t know if they love any of the top quarterbacks. They have said they like some.
Late word is the Cleveland Browns are looking to move up from number 12 ahead of the Cardinals. Speaking of moving, would the Cardinals do the opposite and move down if their top players are gone?
Probably not. What is more likely is a surprise. Early on in the offseason and when mock drafts were starting to come out in force back in January, there was talk the Cardinals may want a running back?

With David Johnson still the number one, the Cardinals number two right now would be Kerwynn Williams. Andre Ellington is being converted into a receiver. Chris Johnson is gone.
So does that maybe mean Christian McCaffrey out of Stanford? Could be. Don’t sleep on him. He could be gone but depending on who you are listening to, he could go anywhere in the first round.
There have been a lot of mock drafts that think the Cardinals are going to go tight end. Don’t count on it. That truly would be a surprise.
If you are a betting man tonight, go defense. Maybe linebacker, maybe cornerback, maybe safety. I wouldn’t count on offensive line. Quarterback is a big maybe. Receiver will happen in the draft, but not first round.
The projected draft time for the Cardinals will be at 6:40 tonight. We will have immediate reaction following the selection.
