The Arizona Cardinals are still searching for their second starting cornerback

One position we’ve come back to time and again to talk about this offseason when it comes to the Arizona Cardinals is the cornerback position.  With the way they produced in 2016, rightfully so.

After Patrick Peterson, once again, we are left guessing as to who will step up to the plate.  Will the improved health of Justin Bethel be the difference between this year’s training camp and last year’s?

Other questions arise with second-year corner Brandon Williams.  Coach Bruce Arians has talked him up in the offseason.  Is there true improvement?

The search for a starter opposite of Peterson will be an ongoing discussion throughout the months of July and August.  There are a total of 11 corners vying for what will likely end up being just four spots.

With that many competing and so many unknowns going into camp, this makes this competition probably the most intriguing on the entire roster.  They could keep five but they have a number of safeties to worry about as well.

Roster predictions:

Starters: Peterson, Bethel

Backups: Williams, Rudy Ford

Practice squad possibilities: Sojourn Shelton, Elie Bouka, Ryan Lewis

Remember, this is just a prediction three weeks before camp actually opens.  There is something that tells me that Bethel is going to come out with a chip on his shoulder and doing everything he can to prove himself.

That will hopefully prove to be the case.  He certainly has the most experience after Peterson. Also, look out for Shelton, he could be one that plays his way onto the 53-roster with a huge preseason, so don’t sleep on him.
