David Johnson recently set lofty goals for himself and the team

Recently while doing an interview the “Humble Rumble” stated that his biggest goal for the upcoming season was to reach the historic 1,000/1,000 club (1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving) a feat that has only been accomplished by Marshall Faulk and Roger Craig. Faulk of course, was inducted into the Hall of Fame back in 2011. As tough as it seems to reach the historic club, if any current running back is capable its David Johnson.

Last season David Johnson posted explosive numbers.  He posted 1,239 rushing yards and 879 receiving yards. All while gaining at least 100 yards from scrimmage in the first 15  games of the season.  That  is an NFL best. He broke multiple Arizona rushing records, and also became the first Cardinal to post 2,000+ total yards  from scrimmage. Subtract that stingy knee injury in the last game of the season and the possibility of reaching the 1000/1000 club goes from improbable to beyond doubt.

He also set the bar for his team, hoping to eventually reach Super Bowl 52. Although this is the goal of every team and most every player, his confidence is warranted. Aside David Johnson is a Hall of Fame wide receiver and one of the most discredited QB’s in the NFC, an offensive line that is better than the stats show, and a championship caliber defense. On paper this a super bowl team that shows high talent in almost every skill position.

Last year the goal was the Super Bowl, expectations have not changed despite a lackluster 2016 season but hey, if David Johnson believes, I believe.

How do you feel about players putting large expectations on the team and themselves? Is this smart, or just a distraction? Comment below and start the conversation. Go Big Red!
