In the midst of a 28-17 loss, Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald had a huge night
People kept saying the Arizona Cardinals were lacking a receiver that could help carry this team to victories. Some of those same people said receiver Larry Fitzgerald was done and should retire.
After Monday night’s performance, hopefully he isn’t going anywhere. Fitz caught 13 passes for 149-yards and a touchdown. He still grabs pretty much anything out of thin air.
Even now in his 14th season he is still a better option than so many others. This isn’t to criticize the other Cardinals receivers, it’s just none of them are Fitz.
The Cardinals needed him big time on Monday night with John Brown out and J.J. Nelson slowed. He gave the Cardinals everything he had.
It still wasn’t enough to beat the Dallas Cowboys but it certainly kept them in the game. Fitz showed on Monday night he still can carry a team offensively.

Last season he caught and NFL-leading 107 passes. His 13 on Monday night gave him 22 receptions on the season. At current pace, he would eclipse that mark.
While we can’t expect Fitz to go out every week and catch 13 passes, it is still nice to know the Cardinals can do that without hurting him or the team. He was exactly what they needed in the passing game.
Hopefully we will get a chance to see the other receivers have big games this season. If the Cardinals are going to entertain any thought of getting to the postseason, Fitz will need to stay healthy.
Certainly after the team’s performance on Monday night, the postseason is only a dream at this point but they are only one game out in the NFC West. There is a lot of football to be played.
It is nice to know the Cardinals can still rely on a 14-year veteran playing at times like he is still a yougster. He may have lost a step or so but it doesn’t really matter if he is still putting up the big numbers he did against the Cowboys.
