Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson apparently is ready to get going

So much for a training camp holdout.  Arizona Cardinals starting running back David Johnson was seen on the practice field Monday morning.

Rookies and quarterbacks were due to report on Monday.  Johnson was with them as he was seen taking handoffs from new starting quarterback Sam Bradford.

Not only did we not expect to see Johnson on Monday, there was thought he would continue his holdout.  He held himself out of minicamp in June.

He is currently looking for a contract extension.  He deserves it but he is also under contract currently.  He is also coming off missing all but one half of one game in 2017.

The thought by many of us is that he needs to go out and prove what we know he can already do.  There is no doubt the Cardinals love him.  Fans love him and after missing him for most of last season, people can’t wait to see him back on the field.

That said, he was there.  Per arizonasports.com, he said he would let his agents take care of things.  Smart move.

It is nice to see guys like Johnson get the extra work in before camp officially starts for the entire team this Friday at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale. The first open practice for fans to watch is on Saturday.

With the Cardinals emphasizing the run more this season, it is important as ever for all running backs to get work in.  Behind Johnson are Chase Edmonds, T.J. Logan, Elijhaa Penny, D.J. Foster, and Sherman Badie.

With the Cardinals offense being run first this season, they could carry as many as four or even five backs.  Johnson will certainly get the bulk of the carries however.

Next: Arizona Cardinals did not make mistake taking Rosen

Although he is 100 percent, hopefully the Cardinals won’t push Johnson too hard in the early going.  It is sure a nice sight to see him on the field though.
