Williams release has been long overdue and looks like much more of a possibility with the recent Robert Alford signing. The 2016 NFL combine star has failed to tap into the potential Keim once saw in him, and with a contract with an easy out for the Cardinals, Williams doesn’t project to be on the roster very long.

The 26-year-old has been healthy and available for the past two seasons but has not seen a start since his rookie year. In 2018, he saw his snap share decrease to a new low – 7.6% and finished the year with an atrocious Pro Football Focus grade of 49.3; less than ideal numbers.

Cutting Williams would be a big pill of pride to swallow for Steve Keim, after all, he reached on the former Texas A&M corner due to outstanding showings at the combine but hadn’t flashed the tape to be a third rounder during his time in College Station. 2019 would be the off-season for Keim to swallow that pill, and look elsewhere for depth at the position.
