Cardinals fill a team need, Chargers get their Philip Rivers successor
Arizona Cardinals acquire: 2019 second-round pick (No. 60), 2019 fourth-round pick (No. 130), 2020 3rd-round pick, WR Mike Williams
Los Angeles Chargers acquire: QB Josh Rosen
Like the Patriots, the Chargers are built to win now but need to find their replacement to franchise quarterback Philip Rivers. Unlike the Patriots, they offer a very different package that consists of a player that made a big impact in their 2018 season; former first-round pick Mike Williams.
The Cardinals will likely look to find their next primary receiver in the 2019 draft, however, with this trade, they get to save a pick by getting that guy in Mike Williams, who is under a rookie contract for three more seasons. Williams, a 6-4, 220-lb wide receiver that possesses an absurd catch radius, contested catch abilities, and refined route running enjoyed a solid second season in 2018, as he posted a line of 43/664/10 despite only starting five games out of 16 on a roster stacked with receiving talent.
Not only do the Cardinals fill a hole in the roster, but they also add a couple of solid draft picks while they are at it. Although this trade might not seem like the big haul like the others, based on quantity, the importance of getting a number one option in Williams, who is just 24-year-old, is invaluable for a franchise desperate for one.
