Arizona Cardinals: 4 games that will make or break their NFL season
By Steve Rivera
Week 17 could be a unique wrap up to the regular season. For the Arizona Cardinals, a road finale against the Los Angeles Rams could mean a lot of things. For one, it could validate a team in Arizona on the rise, especially if they are doing just that.
The Rams don’t appear to be a team that is a legitimate player for the postseason. They also don’t appear to be a team trending in a direction you’d want when you’re on deck to open a new stadium, either.
The season finale in Los Angeles will be a game that wraps up what could be a watershed season for the Cardinals. If Arizona has taken care of business with their home slate of games, a sweep could be in order, as well as leapfrogging the Rams in the standings.
This season should see a shift in the NFC West, with LA making a move down the division. Bad deals and few draft picks are catching up with the Rams. Conversely, the Cardinals have a better quarterback, better offensive talent, and a defense that can keep a remarkably mediocre quarterback like Jared Goff in check.
A sweep of Los Angeles likely puts Arizona at 8-8. The idea of the Cardinals as a dark horse playoff contender is an interesting concept. However, for that to happen, a lot has to break their way. Sweeping the Rams, and getting a split with Seattle could swing Arizona to not just a third-place finish in the NFC West, but possibly give them an outside shot at postseason consideration.
