Arizona Cardinals may have to go backup plan at quarterback
The quarterback who should start is…Chris Streveler
This is as tough of a question that the team has had to answer in some time. We have two quarterbacks that bring to the table completely different things. You have a veteran who got to learn from Aaron Rodgers and young rambler who is craving his first full NFL game. If I was in Kliff’s shoes, my choice would be for Streveler to be handed the reigns if Murray can’t go.
Streveler brings you a bevy of choices in what to do. He seems to be a competent passer, and having Larry Fitzgerald and Deandre Hopkins to throw to can make any quarterback look good (just look at the list of quarterbacks they’ve caught TD’s from). There’s also the chance to run more of a true option running game that would isolate that incredible defensive line of the Rams, something I wrote about the last time these two teams played. He also isn’t afraid to lower the boom when he gets the ball and has great awareness of where the sticks are.
Streveler by now should be getting reps with the starters in order to prepare for this critical matchup. He has Hundley on the sideline to go to with questions and talk shop, and Kingsbury’s ingenuity on the play calling side should help him be victorious this week.
Take a look at Streveler’s highlights and you can see how often unique running plays were called for him, and the amount of energy and passion he played with. Those intangibles are invaluable to a squad that controls it’s own destiny.
