42. . . Previous: 3rd. San Francisco 49ers. 4. team

Taking the fourth spot in my NFC West power rankings are the San Francisco 49ers. The reason for the drop in the rankings is the fog around the quarterback position that’s just as thick as the wildfire that caused orange skies in the daytime last year. Will it be Jimmy Garoppolo, one of the backups that have played sparingly over the past few years? Or will Kirk Cousins be the one to suit up? The team will have to stay far, far away from the injury bug that plagued them last year.

The team may be getting George Kittle back, but will he stay healthy? For as physical of a blocker that he is, the hits he takes in the receiving game are just as hard. The 49ers may be using him for too much at once, and with the walking glass body that Jordan Reed has been in his career doesn’t give much stability in a backup tight end. Of course, that all depends on if Reed re-signs with the team, given he is a free agent this year.

As stated in my last rankings, Trent Williams is still the most important free agent that they have, as with the defensive lines in the division getting more and more elite definitely won’t make the quarterbacks’ job any easier.
