It’s not clear if Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray really knows what a trap game is.
When Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray spoke to the media this week about their impending matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Murray mentioned the fact that he doesn’t believe in trap games. This wouldn’t be anything special had the team not suffered two of the worst momentum-killing losses in franchise history to the Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers last season.
With Murray claiming he doesn’t believe in trap games, Murray has just officially made it a trap game. The Jaguars enter this game worse off than the Lions did when they came to Arizona in Week 3 of the 2020 season. Why would Murray want to give the Jaguars any bulletin board material?
It’s not on Murray to know the Cardinals’ history in terms of bad teams (or quarterbacks) lost to. But since 2012, this Arizona team has lost to the following signal-callers:
- Greg McElroy
- Jimmy Clausen
- Landry Jones
- Duck Hodges
- C.J. Beathard
- John Wolford
Now it’s early on in Trevor Lawrence‘s career, but the Jaguars look absolutely lost. This is the NFL, however, and a lowly New York Jets team did beat the Los Angeles Rams late in the 2020 season. This Jaguars team also went into Green Bay last season and held the lead late into the fourth quarter before Aaron Rodgers finally got his act together and won the game
Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals must destroy the Jacksonville Jaguars
This must be a game where the Cardinals put up 45 or more points on this Jaguars squad. There is no other reason not to. Arizona is going to need all the momentum possible before they start taking on divisional opponents (The Rams are in Week 4).
Murray must continue carving up Jacksonville’s defense, and the Cardinals’ defense itself cannot have a repeat performance from their last outing. A win is a win, but beating the Minnesota Vikings by only one point is embarrassing.
Final score in Week 3? Arizona 56-6.
