10 greatest moments in the Cardinals career of Larry Fitzgerald
7. Winning the Walter Payton Man of the Year award
Larry Fitzgerald has been one of the NFL’s most prominent philanthropists. In the years leading up to this award, he has done the following:
- Started the “Larry Fitzgerald First Down Fund”, which helped young kids have activities provided along with health programs.
- A memorial fund in his name, The Carol Fitzgerald Memorial Fund, helps raise money and awareness for breast cancer.
- Won the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Heritage Award, which awards those who strive towards the betterment of the quality of life for Arizonans.
It was a long time coming for one of the league’s classiest players when he won the Walter Payton award. Fitzgerald actually shared the award with former Giants quarterback Eli Manning, something that you don’t see much of anymore. Fitzgerald didn’t get to wear the patch that resembles the trophy on his jersey until the 2017 season, in which former winners will always have it displayed on their left chest.
Fitzgerald is the second player in team history to win the award. The other player is his former quarterback, Kurt Warner who won it in the 2008 season.
