Former Arizona Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks reportedly interviewed with the New York Giants recently about their defensive coordinator opening.

When the Arizona Cardinals hired former Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks in 2018, the hope was that he would be able to continue the success that Bruce Arians was able to achieve during his time in the desert.

Unfortunately, for the Cardinals and Wilks, there was no success during their time together. In fact, the lack of success that Arizona had in 2018 led the team to part ways with Wilks after just one season.

Since his departure from the Cardinals, Wilks has had stints with the Cleveland Browns and the University of Missouri. Most recently, the former Arizona head coach reportedly met with the New York Giants about their current defensive coordinator opening according to multiple reports.

Could former Arizona Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks land with the New York Giants?

Despite having the qualifications to become the next Giants defensive coordinator, it sounds like Wilks probably isn’t going to get the job.

According to CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson on Sunday, the former Cardinals head coach has already been told that he isn’t going to end up running the defense in New York. Anderson even added that Wilks was told this before former Giants defensive coordinator Patrick Graham officially left to join the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday.

It’s possible that Wilks could still end up with a job on an NFL coaching staff during the next few weeks, but it just won’t be with New York. The former Arizona head coach is still the defensive coordinator at Missouri, so if no pro teams come calling this year, he will likely continue in his current role at the school.
