2008 Season

No, the 2008 Season didn’t end well for the Cardinals, who lost 27-23 in what many regard to be one of the greatest Super Bowls in NFL history. But let’s not erase what the Cardinals accomplished.

They finished with a 9-7 record and no one thought they’d advance beyond the divisional playoffs. In that game, they crushed the Carolina Panthers (a constant thorn in their side these days) 33-13. Then, they caught a break in the NFC Championship, playing the Philadelphia Eagles after the latter upset the top-seeded Giants.

The Pittsburgh Steelers, who appeared in six Super Bowls and won five of them, were in familiar territory. The Cardinals, in their first league championship game since 1947, came in with something to prove. And they nearly pulled off the upset, taking a late 23-20 lead only to see it slip away with 35 seconds left.
