5 former Arizona Cardinals who could return to the squad in 2022
By Jim Koch
Patrick Peterson – CB
2021 Team: Minnesota Vikings
When the great Patrick Peterson left to sign a free-agent deal with the Minnesota Vikings last year, Arizona brought in veteran Malcolm Butler to be the number-one cornerback. Unfortunately, Peterson’s replacement abruptly retired, a surprising occurrence that left a huge hole in the squad’s secondary.
Granted, Peterson is no longer the cover guy who went to eight consecutive Pro Bowls during his time with the Cards. At the right price, however, the veteran could come home to supply Arizona with an experienced, competitive corner.
Peterson’s return to the desert would be intriguing, to say the least. If Keim can make it work with the salary cap, a reunion with the 31-year-old Peterson is something that the Cardinals may be wise to explore.
