Pierre Strong (South Dakota State)

A small-school stud, Pierre Strong lacks the ideal size to be a three-down back at just 207 pounds. But like Pacheco, he boasts 4.37 speed in the 40-yard dash, making him one of the draft’s shiftier backs. He runs with instinct, which supplements his incredible field vision.

The downer for Strong is that his instincts can also work against him. He loves to pre-set where he’s going to run the ball. And when forced to cut upfield before he’s ready, Strong has a bad habit of slowing up.

Despite his speed and shiftiness, Strong is best suited to be a north/south runner.  He’s one of those backs who, when instinct serves him well, will hit the hole hard and take off. How frequently did he do this in college? He scored on 50-plus yards ten times in his collegiate career. The ultimate homerun hitter, Strong could be a steal in the late rounds.
