Third-best Arizona Cardinals player to break out this season: Byron Murphy

Some of you are thinking (and rightfully so) that Murphy’s breakout season came last season when he intercepted four passes and had a touchdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2.

That is true, but what I’m getting at is his completion percentage when he’s targeted. Since his rookie season, Murphy has only improved that percentage by 4.3 percent- while allowing very similar yardage last year (731) as he did in his rookie season (754).

2022 is the year that Murphy emerges as a true shutdown corner and drops that number into the 50s. That’s a huge ask for a corner, but it can be done with the pieces in place and a healthy J.J. Watt disrupting the passer.
