Dear Arizona Cardinals: The time has come to fire Kliff Kingsbury
By Sion Fawkes
The time has come, Michael Bidwill – Fire Kliff Kingsbury, fire Steve Keim, and your Arizona Cardinals might actually become a relevant football team.
It is absolutely no secret on how I currently feel about the Arizona Cardinals. We have a coach who can’t control his players, something I said that two months ago. We have a general manager who, other than his ability to trade well, has never been consistent during the NFL Draft minus a few outliers.
And I know no one wants to admit it, but until Kyler Murray wins something other than a Pro Bowl berth, there is no way we can confidently say he is a top-tier quarterback. But out of the aforementioned trio, Murray should be the likeliest to stay, Keim second, and Kingsbury, a distant third.
Why? Below, we are going to look at some fun facts regarding Kingsbury and how he, in 3.5 seasons at the helm, has yet to improve as a head coach, and why he needs to be shown the door.
Arizona Cardinals need to admit their mistake and get rid of Kingsbury
Since taking over as the Cardinals head coach in 2019, Kingsbury has compiled the following:
- A 4-13 mark when his team commits at least two turnovers.
- Zero NFC West titles.
- Zero playoff wins.
- Top five in offensive penalties committed in 2019, 2020, and 2021 (7th-highest in 2022).
- A combined record of 9-17 (including playoffs) in the second half of the season between 2019 and 2021.
Twitter users also panned Kingsbury, with common denominators including:
- Lack of leadership
- Poor playcalling
- Zero control of his players
- Lack of focus
Last week, we had an article on this site panning quarterback Kyler Murray, and we even captioned it as the former number one overall pick being immature, self-entitled, the works. Perhaps Murray is that type of person. Or perhaps, perhaps Kingsbury’s inability to discipline his players is destroying the career of what could be a great football player?
There is only one way to find out. Get rid of Kingsbury, and see how Murray responds. If he plays well, with or without his security blanket in DeAndre Hopkins, then we will take back everything we said about him and point to the real culprit. A poor NFL coach that is Kliff Kingsbury.
